Larson said in a meeting last week that her department was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed by the amount of work involved in contact tracing and Thursday she detailed some things the department is doing to remedy the issue.
The first was using a system called Sara Alert which Larson said is designed to make contact tracing more efficient and was installed in the department on Wednesday.
She said she hopes will take some of the burden off of her employees so the essential services her department would normally be working on this time of year can be continued.

They can use a cellphone to sign up for the SARA Alert system, which allows them to receive a web link via text message to report to the health department if they have become symptomatic while under self-quarantine, Torbik said.

Two weeks after Mount Desert Island Hospital and the state CDC announced a partnership that would allow the hospital to participate in the state’s Sara Alert system for contact tracing, the system is not yet up and running. “MDI Hospital continues to work on the necessary credentialing, training and system revisions needed to engage … in the public health reporting processes,” hospital spokesperson Oka Hutchins said in an email Tuesday. The hospital and CDC teams “have had numerous phone calls,” CDC director Dr. Nirav Shah said last week.
