Hill County Health Board discusses Sara Alert, and COVID-19 trends

The report said the department has also installed a new system called Sara Alert that allows people who’ve tested positive for COVID-19, or have been potentially exposed to it, to report their daily symptoms.

“We see this as a force multiplier and a way to apply our time more efficiently,” Wendland read from the report. Public Health Nurse Jessica Kennedy-Stiffarm said so far the system appears to be working very well.

Contact tracing and essential health services discussed in county officials meeting

Larson said in a meeting last week that her department was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed by the amount of work involved in contact tracing and Thursday she detailed some things the department is doing to remedy the issue.

The first was using a system called Sara Alert which Larson said is designed to make contact tracing more efficient and was installed in the department on Wednesday.

She said she hopes will take some of the burden off of her employees so the essential services her department would normally be working on this time of year can be continued.

Contact tracing not up and running

Two weeks after Mount Desert Island Hospital and the state CDC announced a partnership that would allow the hospital to participate in the state’s Sara Alert system for contact tracing, the system is not yet up and running. “MDI Hospital continues to work on the necessary credentialing, training and system revisions needed to engage … in the public health reporting processes,” hospital spokesperson Oka Hutchins said in an email Tuesday. The hospital and CDC teams “have had numerous phone calls,” CDC director Dr. Nirav Shah said last week.

Streets busy, cases low

The CDC granted the hospital the public health jurisdiction to use the Sara Alert contact tracing system to track symptoms of those who have come into contact with a positive case here, even if the positive case is a visitor.
